In Holsworthy & North Cornwall
Our Top 10 Restaurants & Pubs - Holsworthy and North Cornwall
We’ve lived in the area for long enough to have sampled many of the local bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes. This is our top 10 in the Holsworthy, Devon and North Cornwall area.
1. Rosie’s Kitchen – Bude
Our absolute favourite place in the area is Rosie’s.
Located right on Crooklets beach, Rosie’s is famous for their hospitality and fantastic food and drink. Super informal, Rosie’s serves stone baked pizzas, fish and chips and the best Snickers milkshake you will ever taste. Did I mention it’s our favourite? With a children’s play area right outside the front door Rosie’s is child friendly inside and out. In addition, Rosie’s is super dog friendly too! You’ll always find other diners with their dogs in attendance. If you’re visiting the area, Rosie’s has to be on your list.
2. Ma’ ida – Okehampton
Awesome for Indian food
If you like Indian food, you’ll love Ma’ida. It has an extensive menu with dishes from Kashmir to Karachi and Nepal to er Delhi. Our favourite selection here is the Brinjal Bhaji – It’s devine. P.S. look out for the wall lights. When they’re lit, they look like peacocks. When they’re not they’re anyone’s guess. Mai-Da is a good choice during peak holiday season as it’s less likely to be fully booked. Child-friendly. p.s. bring your own alcohol.
3. Preston Gate Inn – Poughill
A superb gastropub
A great local boozer and restaurant, The Preston Gate Inn is fabulous. Draught real ales, an excellent wine list and slightly upmarket food to die for. Dog & child friendly. The Preston Gate Inn is located in Poughill just to the north of Bude. The single track roads and parking can be tricky but it’s worth it.
4. The White Hart Hotel – Holsworthy
Fantastic service, good food and great drink
The White Hart is a really friendly pub in the centre of Holsworthy. Run by two of the nicest landlord/landlady team you’re likely to meet, John & Tammy. The pub serves traditional pub grub, has a carvery every Sunday and is one of the busiest pubs in the area at the weekend. With a pool table, great selection of drinks behind the bar and it’s own mini nightclub, The White Hart shouldn’t be missed.
5. Crisp & Dry – Holsworthy
Unbelievable fish & chips
In our opinion, by far the best fish and chips in the Holsworthy area, the food from Crisp & Dry is delicious. The team is super friendly and service prompt. Be sure you’re early as the shop closes at 19:00 or 20:00 most nights.
6. The Beach – Bude
High end dining with incredible views
If you’re looking for food a little more refined (and pricier) your best bet is The Beach At Bude. Located in Summerleaze Crescent on the cliffs overlooking Summerleaze beach, it has a fantastic spot for a romantic evening. The food tends to be of very high quality but smaller portion sizes. The wine menu and the service is fantastic.

A country sports inn
A fab pub in the middle of the countryside on a hill overlooking the Torridge valley, The Half moon is a 16th century fishing and field sports Inn. The restaurant serves classic pub food with a specials board leaning towards the catch of the day. Dog & family friendly.
8. The Deck – Bude
Street food with a twist
One of our family’s favourites, The Deck serves fabulous classic street food from ribs to mussels, burgers and a number of fishy delights too. Located on Summerleaze Crescent the tables at the front of the restaurant have a great view over Bude’s Summerleaze beach. As with most of the eateries in Bude, booking is essential at all times except the low season. Family Friendly
